Protecting San Diego Communities

Protecting San Diego Communities Through Responsible Planning

The SD Community Defense Fund was created in response to the College Area Community Plan Update, a proposal that many residents believe ignored meaningful community input while advancing one of the largest density increases proposed in any San Diego neighborhood.

While the community-supported “7 Visions” plan proposed a 137% increase in housing capacity alongside thoughtful infrastructure considerations, the adopted update seeks to increase density by 316% in a neighborhood that currently lacks a fire station, major employment center, adequate parks (currently 8% of the required parks for the existing population with no plan to provide reasonable parks) , and other essential community resources.

We believe San Diego can and should plan for future growth — but growth must be responsible, transparent, and aligned with the realities of existing neighborhoods and infrastructure.

The SD Community Defense Fund’s mission is to support legal and community efforts that promote accountable planning, defend resident participation in the public process, and advocate for balanced development that preserves the character, safety, and livability of our communities in future community plan updates.

Funds raised will support litigation, public education, outreach, and ongoing advocacy efforts to ensure residents have a meaningful voice in shaping the future of their neighborhoods.
